It was raining upon our arrival. The first person into the restaurant was greeted with the phrase "I don't know about that (regarding our reservation), and all such requests must go through either me or Frank." No action seemed to be initiated to resolve the dilemma.
There was one large group at the restaurant (approx. 10 people). The rest of the tables were empty (I would guess 60 seats or more).
We stood waiting for some time with no apparent interest by the staff we saw to acknowledge our presence or take any action to accommodate us. At this time I saw two staff, apparently clearing tables of dirty dishes.
Since nobody was paying any attention to us, I took action to determine whether we were at the correct restaurant. I redialed the number that I called to make the reservation, talked to the person who answered and walked towards the sound of the ringing phone.
The phone was in the bar area. I observed smoky, dingy surroundings, two customers at the bar, and the lady I was talking with on the telephone.
The lady answering the telephone said that, of course, she expected us. I reported what the lady clearing dishes had told us, and asked if there was a problem. She told me that she would take care of it.
Both of the ladies we had talked with disappeared into the kitchen area together. We waited for some time; still standing at the door.
Finally, the lady who answered the telephone came and offered us a table. She seemed quite congenial.
After a few minutes the lady who seated us returned and said that she was sorry, but we could not be seated at this time.
The other lady joined the discussion, and we asked to speak to the manager. The other lady said that she was in charge and that we could not be served at this time.
Finally, one of the ladies accepted our presence and said that we could stay. At this point the other lady appeared frustrated and I observed their confrontation. The one said "Just take their order!" in a very demanding tone. The other raised her eyes to the ceiling, pulled out a notepad and initiated service.
At this point, I said "I'm not eating here." I got up and started towards the door. |

The atmosphere is light and reminds you of old colonial days. The open fireplace has a kettle in the center, giving you the feel of old-fashioned, laid back times. Excellent lighting for a nice romantic atmosphere, or a nice meal with your family. |
