I travel on business regularly and have made the Compass Rose my regular lunch stop while in Alamogordo. I had the good fortune of being in town on Sty. Patricks Day and really enjoyed the corned beef and cabbage along with the obligatory pint o' Guiness. For those less fortunate than I was, my usual is the corned beef, best I've found anywhere. |

Although it only provides sandwich service, the sandwiches are great!
Having Guiness Stout on tap doesn't hurt either.
The potato salad side dish is the BEST I have ever tasted.
The ambience is mixed, i.e., the English style telephone booth on the patio belies the Bavarian-style decor inside. Although it looks more like what the inside of a 1800's German Frigate might look like... absent the stench of unwashed sailors. |

Best place in Alamogordo! My wife and I frequent this establishment at least once a week. Super friendly service and an outstanding family environment. Don't let the fact that this is a pub fool you--no smoking, family owned and operated, and just slighly off the beaten path to alleviate the hustle and bustle. This is the closest place you'll ever find to the warm, family environment we all enjoyed watching on TV--CHEERS! For menu selections--do not pass up on the BLT with avocado (be sure to ask for the avocado, not standard). Thick strips of bacon provided in generous portions. The sandwich itself is rather large and can be enjoyed in half for a cozy couple. For appetizers, you must try the guacamole and chips. This is the real thing! Fresh avocado gently stirred into a paste with fresh tomatoes garnished on top. Absolutely dreamy and delicious--I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. If you're in the mood for a good beer to wash it all down with, try the Fat Tire Ale--a sweet rich ale which make a great half for a Black & Tan if you're looking for an even richer concoction. I'll see you next time at the Compass Rose. |
