The beer list is by far the Brickskellar's main attaction; with over 500 beers available, it boasts one of the largest beer selections of any restaurant in the world. Pub fare is the rule, including well-regarded onion rings and buffalo burgers.

I've been going to the Brickskellar in DC since I turned 21 - about 10 years ago. It's been there for a long while though - parents went there while in college at AU.
It's got a dark basement room downstairs (jukebox music) and a more open and bright upstairs (with DJ music). Darts upstairs too, but it's usually pretty crowded. Usually caters to the 20s - early 30s crowd, but some old time regulars there as well.
Prices are very reasonable, compared to most other DC, MD or VA bars. The selection is outstanding, but sometimes, items are out of stock. Best bet to review the list or know what you're looking for ahead of time.
The food is pub style food, for the most part. Burgers, fries, pizza, etc. Cheese boards are pretty good as are the fish n' chips. |

The Brickskeller is a small, dark, smokey, basement bar with crummy food - your typical dive. Except that they boast the largest selection of beer in the world and cite the guinness book of world records to back their claim (at last count 1200 different beers). However, just because the beer is printed on the beer list doesn't mean its in stock. The staff will tell you to have a second choice in mind, and you'll usually need it. Sometimes a third choice. That said, with so many beers to choose from even your 5th choice is going to be a very, very good beer. Oh, these beers are all bottled, not on tap. |

I haven't been there in many years, but I still drool over some of the tasty or otherwise memorable beverages I first tasted at the Brickskeller, including Chimay, Old Peculiar (the bottle looks like a specimen jar), oatmeal stout, and others.
A warning, though: They go for completeness. If there's only one beer on the menu from a given country, don't assume that it's any good. |

So good! Amazing to find such a cool pub that's not aimed at the gay clientele as are other places in Dupont Circle. A definite must visit for those who have never been there; you will have fun. |
