I have to agree about the beer, I found mine to be flat however having said that I love this place.
The calimari is divine and for that alone I would visit but the coconut pie is to die for.
There are some really fine martini choices to be had so skip the beer but don't skip the restaurant. |

This pub is great!
Best beer in town... for beer connaisseurs!! It has nothing to do with regular untasty Molson and Labatt beer.
Food is good and cheap.
Recommanded!! |

You know you are in trouble when a brew pub brews a light beer to compete with Coors light and it sells in large quanities. It is a party place popular with the happy hour crowd and the young crowd. The food is typical bar food , largely forgetable. Don't come here looking for examples of great beer. The IPA's are usually under hopped, the brown ales too sweet (in I like brown ales) and most ales lack body of any kind. I find the beers mediocre at best.
Serivce is OK from some points of view. But, the staff knows little about the beers available, are often over worked, and the sort of random arrangement of tables plus the huge crowd in front of the bar makes their job difficult.
If you want to sample the better beer brewed in Hartford, find a bar or resturant that sells Trout Brook Brewing company beer (Hooker Ale is the common one) or Farmington River Brewing Company Mahogany Ale.
I gave City Steam a poor rating because it calls it self a Brew Pub so, beer is of primary consideration. The beer is at best mediocre. If this was just a pub, then I would have given a good rating. There is nothing to distinguish City Steam but if standard fare is fine by you, then you will like it.. and the crowd seems to have a good time. |

Unless your a glutton for punishment avoid City Steam. The beer is of poor quality, and the food is over priced. Owner and staff don't care much for the products, or respect the customers. At the end of downtown between 3 hotels is mostly caters to the out of town business person. Also does a big business in corporate parties as they have several good size function rooms.
Currently the only brewpub in Hartford. |
